I officiated an indoor wedding a couple of weeks ago and the wedding party could not use real candles for the ceremony because it would be a violation of fire code in the place where their ceremony was held. Sometimes this can put a damper on the special-ness of your wedding, but there are alternatives.
First, the wedding couple did get special permission to have a Unity Candle and light it during the ceremony only. Some facilities will make exceptions to Unity Candles so it is good to check that out beforehand.
Second, if you are unable to have a Unity Candle, a Sand Ceremony Vase Set is a good alternative. It is a similar concept to the Unity Candle but uses sand for the symbol instead of a candle.
Third, battery-operated tea lights are an option for creating a soft environment for your wedding and reception. I have seen them used during a wedding and they look amazingly real. Plus they are safe and easy to use.
